What is Vanilla Ivy all about?

Hello everyone! I wanted to make my first blog post explaining what exactly the purpose behind Vanilla Ivy is. The name of this blog was inspired by my online boutique called Vanilla Ivy Boutique. I sell western boho style clothing. I am currently a student enrolled in JMS495 at the University of Northern Colorado. This is the first blog I have ever created. It is going to be a learning journey for me and I thank each and everyone of you who are joining me.

Besides this blog being for a class it is also a platform for me to share my fashion and the tips I have. I will be focusing on mostly western and boho types of fashion for every season. Since I am a college student and the targeted group of readers that I have are also around my age, I wanted to share tips on how to shop on a budget, thrifting ideas, and local sales. I will be interviewing local boutique owners on style tips they have. I will also be interviewing local college students who are in fashion programs. I have had experience with starting my own business, so I will be sharing my experience as well.

I will be posting three times a week. Since this is my first journalism/ blogging class, I do not have any experience. Strengths that I have as a writer is I am able to make connections between different pieces of writing. For example I mostly write research papers, so I have a lot of experience writing in a professional tone and making connections between different research. Weaknesses that I have as a writer are being creative, since most of my experience is structured writing in the sense of college essays, writing weekly blogs about fashion is going to be a new experience for me.

Originally when I signed up for this class I did not know all that I had gotten myself into. Blogging does scare me because in a way it is very different from the type of writing that I have done in the past. Vanilla Ivy is solely a place that I can go and freely express my opinions on fashion and give my advice. In other words it is a place where I come to be vulnerable and that scares me, because who likes to be vulnerable? Not me, even if it is as simple as fashion tips. I am confident that I am able to share wonderful fashion tips and make people comfortable in expressing themselves through fashion. I am hoping that this blog will bring in wonderful feedback from others to help me better myself and as a writer and to grow confidence within myself about sharing something I am passionate about.
